Tis the season for charity! |
|
|
As this holiday season falls upon us, the Brothers and Sisters are out to show New Jersey, what being a Mason and Eastern Star is all about! |

Brothers of District 1, members of Newark Police Youth Explorers & The Apostles' House staff |
The Brothers of District 1, The Widow's Sons, partnered with The Apostles' House Family Shelter on Thanksgiving day in feeding and giving out clothing to the homeless.
The mission of The Apostles' House (TAH) is to provide comprehensive social services to homeless and at-risk families and individuals in the Newark area in an environment that encourages and enables self-sufficiency.
The event started the day before as the brothers delivered a bunch of turkeys that was later prepared that night by the staff of The Apostles' House. The next morning, the brothers showed up in force to assist in the making of the turkey sandwich lunches that would be distributed throughtout Newark as well as prepping the hot turkey dinners to be served at the center. The brothers also assisted in giving out donated coats and clothing to the homeless at another part of the establishment.
By noon, a contigent of Newark's Police Youth Explorer troop arrived for their annual community event and took over the hot meal feeding duties.
The staff of The Apostles' House were overjoyed at the turnout and the enthusiasm shown by the brothers present. Based on the days successful event, the brothers of District 1, are commiting to "adopting" The Apostle's House and will continue partnering with them on future and ongoing programs. The state of New Jersey's Grand Master, The Illustrious Raymond Smith was there and witnessed the brothers participation and had an opportunity to speak with those in charge of The Apostle House and hopefully, the outcome will involve not only just District 1, but the entire state involvement in future programs

The 54th annual state convention was a great success and may be heralded as the best convention New Jersey has ever had.
Guests included Grand Masters and Grand Matrons from New York, Connecticut, DC and Virginia. Also in attendance were Officers from the Supreme level, National level and other states' Grand Officers.
The brothers and sisters were treated to a special program performed by the State's youth department which included an awe inspiring Praise Dance routine, singing, poetry, public speaking, karate and special recognition to the Honor Students.
The highlight of the weekend was the unprecedented 4 elections which undoubtedly drew more participation than anything in the recent history of the order.
